The Longines Grand Prix of Hong Kong, with it’s prize money exceeding €400,000, saw a French one-two finish, with veteran riders Roger Yves Bost and Simon Delestre taking the top spots.
He’s still got it – and how! Roger Yves Bost, now 60 years old, team Olympic gold medalist from 2016, team world champion from 1990 (!), and individual European champion from 2013, demonstrated his class in the show jumping arena at the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong. Riding the 15-year-old Selle Français mare Ballerine du Vilpion, Bost dominated the younger competition in the jump-off, securing the fastest clear round in 34.94 seconds and taking the lead. His compatriot Simon Delestre, 16 years his junior, finished second with the 10-year-old Selle Français gelding Golden Boy in 35.21 seconds.
Norway’s Johan Sebastian Gulliksen rode Harwich to third place (0 faults / 37.60 sec), followed by Great Britain’s Sameh El Dahan with Oscar-A (0 faults / 38.06 sec) and the third Frenchman in the top ten, Julien Anquetin with Blood Diamond du Pont (4 faults / 34.18 sec). The best German rider was European Champion Richard Vogel with Cloudio in sixth place (4 faults / 35.85 sec).
The Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show, in addition to five-star show jumping, also offered a great platform for young show jumpers with the Asian Youth Challenge (which saw local heroine Ka Lee Carrie Wang, 15 years old, emerge victorious after three rounds). The show program, which included the British Shetland Pony Grand National, was also top-class.
Incidentally, Hans Dieter Dreher and Cous Cous were the winners of the Longines Welcome Stakes on Friday evening, Kevin Staut and Kannonquian were delighted with their victory in the Longines Stakes on Friday afternoon, and Richi Vogel, who was second in the afternoon, took the victory in the Cathay Cargo Stakes on Saturday evening.
